Culture of Japan - National symbols

Mount Fuji (Fujisan) is the national mountain of Japan. It is one of Japan's "Three Holy Mountains" (三霊山) along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku. The summit is considered a sacred place since ancient times. As a national symbol of the country, Fujisan has been depicted in various art and media such as painting, woodblock prints (such as the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji), poetry, music, theater, film, manga, anime and pottery.

Funagata Renpō Prefectural Natural Park

Funagata Renpō Prefectural Natural Park (県立自然公園船形連峰) is a prefectural natural park surrounding Mount Funagata in western Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. First designated for protection in 1962, the park spans the municipalities of Kami, Sendai, Shikama, and Taiwa. Wildlife includes the Japanese serow (a [[List of Special Places of Scenic Beauty, Special Historic Sites and Special Natural Monuments|special natural monument]]), stoat, red-flanked bluetail and forest green tree frog.

Natural Habitat Conservation Areas in Japan - Complementary measures

Natural Habitat Conservation Areas are one element in a network of complementary protected area systems. Others include Wilderness Areas and Nature Conservation Areas under the Nature Conservation Law; Natural Parks under the Natural Parks Law; Wildlife Protection Areas under the Wildlife Protection and Hunting Law; Natural Monuments and [[List of Special Places of Scenic Beauty, Special Historic Sites and Special Natural Monuments|Special Natural Monuments]] under the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties 1950; Nature Conservation Forests under the National Forest Management Bylaw; and Protected Waters under the Preservation of Fisheries Resources Law. Areas are also protected in accordance with three international programmes: the World Heritage Convention (see Yakushima, Shirakami-Sanchi, Shiretoko, and Ogasawara Islands); Man and the Biosphere Programme (see Yakushima, Mount Ōmine/Mount Ōdaigahara, Hakusan, and Shiga Kōgen); and the Ramsar Convention (see Ramsar Sites in Japan).

Kofun - Overview

The funeral chamber was located beneath the round part and comprised a group of megaliths. In 1972, the unlooted Takamatsuzuka Tomb was found in Asuka, and some details of the discovery were revealed. Inside the tightly assembled rocks, white lime plasters were pasted, and colored pictures depict the 'Asuka Beauties' of the court as well as constellations. A stone coffin was placed in the chamber, and accessories, swords, and bronze mirrors were laid both inside and outside the coffin. The wall paintings have been designated national treasures and the grave goods as important cultural property, while the tumulus is a [[List of Special Places of Scenic Beauty, Special Historic Sites and Special Natural Monuments|special historic site]].

Kannon-in - Later history

After the abolition of the han system Kannon-in ceased to be a temple under the patronage of the Ikeda clan, and the temple lost its rice stipend and any form of monetary support. Soon after local adherents of Kannon-in took over the financial support of the temple, support that continues to the present. The Kannon-in garden was designated as a [[List of Special Places of Scenic Beauty, Special Historic Sites and Special Natural Monuments|Special Place of Scenic Beauty]] by the Japanese government in 1937.

Tajima Sangaku Prefectural Natural Park (但馬山岳県立自然公園) is a Prefectural Natural Park in northern Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1959, the park spans the municipalities of Kami, Shin'onsen, Toyooka, and Yabu. The designation of the park protects the habitat of the Japanese giant salamander ([[List of Special Places of Scenic Beauty, Special Historic Sites and Special Natural Monuments|Special Natural Monument]]), Japanese macaque, and Tanuki.
